Your support and contributions will help us to meet our goals and improve conditions for our animals . Your generous donation will fund our mission, thank you!
Nearly all of our meat, eggs and dairy comes from factory farms. The definition of "free range" in the poultry industry is a sick joke. When we consume eggs or meat we condone the torment and suffering inherent in the industry's cruel practices. Warehousing thousands of overcrowded animals together promotes diseases such as bird flu and swine flu that can spread to human populations. Asian "wet markets" are not the only source of epidemics.
The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the plight of meatpacking industry workers. Even before this crisis these workers endured horrible, dangerous conditions. Corporate greed creates inhumane assembly line conditions that puts workers at risk of injury and infection.
Industrial farming is a source of deadly diseases such as influenza (think bird flu, or swine flu) and most food-borne illnesses (E. coli, salmonella, campylobacter, etc.). Red meat is a known carcinogen, and animal fats increase our risk of heart disease. Meat, dairy and eggs produced in factory farms contain antibiotics, growth hormones and heavy metals. All of our dietary needs can be met easily with a plant-based diet.
Animal agriculture contributes to climate change through methane and nitrous oxide emission, forest destruction and farm equipment emissions on a scale comparable to the emissions of all cars, trucks, planes, trains, and ships. Industrial farming creates massive air and water pollution. Extensive areas of rain forest are burned each year for cattle grazing land. The Climate Crisis can not be reversed without addressing animal agriculture.
Killed Every Year
(mostly in industrial "farms")
301,275,455 Cattle
49,877,536,490 Chickens
2,676,365,000 Ducks
402,611,664 Goats
5,018,470 Horses
1,375,940,758 Pigs
564,758,251 Sheep (mainly lambs)
Wildlife is affected by our consumption of meat. Bears, coyotes, cougars and beavers are killed by federal agencies to protect animal agriculture.
An utterly misnamed program within the USDA called "Wildlife Services" (funded by your tax dollars) kills millions of wild animals every year at the request of the corporate agriculture lobby using methods that endanger humans and kill countless pets.
